The Maisoon Al Salah exhibiton sparks conversation about the talent nested in the United Arab Emirates.
In my opinion, the power of art moves me while I am standing still, the beauty of it makes my heartbeat faster and it is such a wonderful thrill that inspires me.
A couple of days ago I visited the Ara gallery to witness an opening of an art show to fellow artist Maisoon Al Salah, her show entitled the chronicles of Dara, a ship that sank near the shore of Dubai in 1961, was a wonderful experience of exploring movement, death and bridge the cultures of the people on board.
An observation I have made is that the people on board the ship back in 1961 are still the major communities residing in Dubai, Indians, Europeans and Emiratis.
Although this incident was before the union of the United Arab Emirates, and the establishment of this country, Al Saleh attempts to bring viewers into a discussion about the importance of this historical event of Emirati history in the Sea.
It shows a long heritage of people being here, traders, settlers, and dwellers. Have always been the same.
Born in 1988, the up and coming Emirati artist and entrepreneur is active in her practice both in Dubai and internationally, her work has been exhibited in UAE at various exhibitions, including Art Dubai.
Maisoon Al Salah captures the stories of the lives of the passengers of the M.V. Dara passenger liner explosion on April 8th, 1961 and explores them through her digital paintings and mixed-media prints.
I believe we changed; United Arab Emirates have always been the same.
The change was made even before it existed as a political nation.
we changed as people.
Maisoon is a wonderful artist; I took some pictures to share some of her art with all of you, enjoy it. Just like I did.
The exhibition runs until May 31st 2013
