In a society in which people are expected to work longer and harder than ever before, there is an underlying belief that we must always be productive – which can ultimately take away from opportunities for self-care.

By taking some time out to engage in self-care, you may relieve the pressures of everyday life and reset yourself to get back to a healthy point where productivity is once again maximised.

Self-care comes in a variety of forms. It does not require an elaborate plan; self-care can be as simple as taking a deep breath when you notice you are becoming stressed. By maintaining your physical and mental health, you will likely be better equipped to handle the stressors that come along with daily life.

Self-care is not synonymous with self-indulgence or being selfish. Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy, you can be well, you can do your job, you can help and care for others, and you can do all the things you need to and want to accomplish in a day.

Self-care is part of the answer to how we can all better cope with the stress of trying to keep up with the pace of daily life, which technology has hastened more than ever with many emails, constant phone notifications and overwhelming messages.
