During the last three decades many changes have been taking place in the culture of the United Arab Emirates. Many of these changes revolve around the family and the family structure in the country, and some of these changes are to the duties and responsibility of each person’s role in the family. This essay will compare and contrast the roles of husbands and wives in the past and in the present.
In the past, duties of husbands were to provide the basics necessities of life, money, food, and shelter, fathers and husbands were normally in charge of taking care of the house and the family, wives and mothers were in turn left to stay at home and provide love and nurturing care to their children, they would be in charge of keeping the house clean, cooking food for the family and keeping the husbands affairs in order.
However, the roles of the family members like husband and wife have changed dramatically during our present time, as women are eager to pursue education even if married, they would mostly refuse to stay home and take care of the children as they focus mostly on personal and social growth, husbands in return have to work and take care of the family still, but many husbands and wives also do work in union with each other to provide a better living for the family, as both women and men are now educated, wives mostly have maids to help around the house, cook the food and take care of the children, while they work to provide a better life for their family and themselves.
The country has changed dramatically in the last thirty years due to the discovery of oil and uniting the Arab Emirates, which in return had many significant changes on the culture and family structure of the country, Due to the fact that both men and women are mostly very highly educated individuals, husbands now work together with their wives to provide a better living for their family and children as opposed to thirty years ago when husbands used to work and provide for the family while wives stayed home ,took care of the children and the house.
