Saeed Al Mehairi

Yesterday, I did something for the first time in my life! I went ahead and had a cup of coffee with one of my followers. We have never met before in real life, and I had no idea what to expect or even how this follower looks like.

This sounds crazy, but after meeting each other, I can already tell you that it’s like we have known each other our entire lives! We grew up in different cities, almost have no one we know in common and had very different personal lives.

But what we both agreed on is our energy, passion for a cohesive, loving society, and how difficult it is for someone to stand out within the Arab culture regardless of their gender due to cultural taboos.

As we discussed our ideas on society and how to make small, impactful changes in cultural perceptions and communicating with others that are similar or have different views than us.

I couldn’t help but also think of the support I have had ever since I was young from my family and specifically sisters! No matter how much self-doubt I had, they would remind me of the importance of pursuing my passions in life, being true to myself, and know that they are around to help me if I drowned.

I am extremely lucky but I am sure that there are others like me that may not be supported by their families as much as they would like to be, but have always had those cheerleaders that cheer them on and celebrates thier accomplishments and shares their surrow.

I am definitely going to be one of those for this particular follower that is an amazing human!

Finally, If you have taken the time to read this, thank you! And of course the countless others I have in my life that have always supported me (you know who you are)!

Maybe it’s time you thank the supporters from your community.
